I thought I’d post the first two drawings done with my new rOtring Rapidograph pens – you can read more about them (and what technical drawing pens are) in this post.

The drawings are done on Bristol paper (smooth, card like), while I was mainly having fun with my imagination (and new pens), it was an opportunity to explore how the pens work through different drawing techniques (cross-hatching, stippling and lines). I’m sold on the reliable ink-flow, the way the pens handle so smoothly – and the colour of the ink itself, which is light-fast, water and smudge-proof, I truly feel like I’ll get years of enjoyment and learning from these pens :) I used a brush pen (Pentel) for the black inked sections in the first drawing, and was pleased that the ink in the brush pen matched the pen lines… there are different types of ink, and black is not always black so to speak… Some pens produce a blueish black (or even purplish, brownish or greenish), I tend to favour black-black ink colour :)
